My Kingdom for a Meeting!

LIke all startups we face the challenges of finding time, getting funding, making the right contacts and so on. All are necessary to executing on our great ideas.

However, the one thing that has become of paramount importance to us recently is getting a meeting.
Or more precisely, getting large commercial organisations to respond in a timely fashion. Of course, our number one priority is our only priority - making our business successful  selling our product or service, getting it out there and getting it noticed.

The existing business however has manifold other priorities, meaning our need is likely to be well down a very long list. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for the startup. Responsiveness is critical, and when you are seeking someone to partner with you, adopt your product, work on a pilot or whatever, the weeks and months it can take to get and retain their attention can be the difference between success and failure.

So, what can be done? Well, first of all I think this is an issue that needs to be raised with potential partners, with support organisations, with contacts and with investors. Talk about it at your next networking or group meeting. Get people considering it and spreading the discussion. Find out if it really is an issue, how big it might be, and who can help.

And most of all, share your own experiences with other entrepreneurs. There is a lot we can do as a community to improve the situation for all without putting our own businesses at risk.
