The old excuse of "I just don't have the time" is just that, an excuse. And a poor one at that. If something is important, worth doing, and will generate the desired result, then you can always find time to get it done.
This blog is a great example:
- It is important: it is a living document of how we are progressing our business.
- It is worth doing: it puts (we think) useful information in the public domain from which others in a similar situation might benefit.
- It generates the desired result: it drives interest in our business and what we are trying to achieve.
So how do I fix the problem of not doing something I should? (And frankly, is it really a problem? After all, this article will take about ten minutes to write, proof and publish. If I can't find ten or so minutes a day to record an important thought, there is something very wrong with my schedule and workload.)
My approach relies on finding a point in the day when I feel like I have time. Maybe it is while having that first coffee in the morning, or that well-deserved cup of tea in the afternoon. Aligning an important task with another regular event is a good way of getting something done.
If that doesn't work, I try setting an alarm. I have a great dashboard tool on my Mac called "Tea Timer." I set a countdown timer, and when it goes off it yells at me repeatedly in one of those great Apple Speech voices until I surrender and get on with the task at hand.
In any event, my promise to you the reader is to strive to keep this blog up to date with information that could help other entrepreneurs and startup business owners. I hope your promise will be to remember to read it regularly!
